Humans Vs Zombies

On Tuesday I saw these students walking toward Honnold Library, and their bandanas altered me to the fact that this semester's round of Humans Vs Zombies is underway at the Claremont Colleges. You can read the entire set of rules for the colleges here.  You can see a short youtube video from a game in 2011 here. According to the official website, this game of "moderated tag" started at Goucher College in 2005. There is a link at that site to a documentary about HvZ which I have not seen, but may watch during spring break next week.

Carcassonne

Among other fun things we did in Oregon this weekend was learn to play the board game, Carcassonne. Back in the summer of 2009, L and C taught us how to play Settlers of Catan, and knowing that we like that game, they knew we'd like this one, too. And we did. I had played this game in a video game version a few years ago, but this one is more fun, mostly because you play with other people sitting around the kitchen table.

Diversion

So, I finally succumbed and bought a New iPad (not to be confused with the non-existent iPad 3).  I am learning the ins and outs and differences between this device and my trusty laptop and desktop.  Older daughter asked me yesterday what I liked best about it, and I thought for a moment.  Besides the fact that I really enjoy the "touch" aspect of it, I think I what I like that is different with it is that I can play "Words with Friends" with my younger daughter.  (I can also text, made easier with the voice recognition software.)  Despite the fact that I am woefully unskilled at this game (and Scrabble), it's fun to play a game over several days and have this additional connection to someone I love.

I also look forward to traveling with it instead of a laptop because of it's small size.

So, yeah, it's pretty fun, and I'm sure that I will find more treasures within this cute device.

Bee Cells

My family likes to make fun of me playing this computer game - Bee Cells.  That's okay.  I like to play a mindless game in the late afternoon  and let my mind wander.

The game is simple and doesn't require swift mouse skills.  The objective is to group 6 or more same-color balls together so they will disappear.  After each turn where you move one ball, the computer adds more balls (from 3-6), filling up the grid until finally every spot is occupied, ending the game.

Yesterday I had the best game I've ever had, as you can see here.
