This morning I went out and took stock of my growing vegetable garden. Snap peas are thriving, tomatoes are slowing growing and have some flowers, green beans just popped up, lettuce doing well. After I finished reading this important book, I peeled a tangelo from our tree and ate it with the juice running down my face. This is what is real food, and what Michael Pollan writes about in his

I will hypothesize that this will be the most important book I read this year. How I will actually put everything into practice may take the rest of the year, but I am convinced that I want to eat real food, and not some food product with many unpronounceable "ingredients" which actually have very little nutritional value. My garden and our fruit trees are a start!
When in doubt, I check out some Haruki Murakami. At the library yesterday, I checked out South of the Border, West of the Sun. This morning I finished this short book. I certainly like the stylistic writing of Murakami, although I can't put my finger on just what makes it different than western writers'. This one had a more confusing ending than other ones, so perhaps I'll chose it for a book club sometime.
The wall between the kitchen and dining room is now gone, and the bathroom gained a few square feet. Already the space feels much bigger, and Hal and I are convinced that we are doing the right thing.
