I just finished The Distant Land of My Father by Bo Caldwell. Not only is our book club discussing it this weekend, but the whole city of Claremont is reading it. The father in the story is an American ex-pat living in Shanghai just before WWII, and he has a rocky relationship with his wife and daughter who end up moving back to Pasadena. It is a story of love and reconciliation between a father and daughter, and a good read.
Three and a half stars out of five.
