Yesterday our book club discussed
The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. I had read that book and thoroughly enjoyed it last December (
see blog post). Our hostess, Nell, put out some of the food that played a role in the World Columbian Exposition in Chicago, the topic of that book. You see Cracker Jacks, Juicy Fruit gum, Quaker Oats, Hershey's Chocolate, but she could have also added Shredded Wheat and Cream of Wheat, but that was okay! We all very much enjoyed the book, especially how much we learned and that it's a gift when non-fiction reads like a novel.
